

First loss of season: The Crusaders suffered their first set back of the 2009 season on Friday night when they lost to Prep 28-21. The game did not start off well for the Crusaders. On the first drive of the game Prep running back Peoples broke loose for a 80 yard touchdown run. The first half was all Prep. The Judge offense could not come up with the first down catch. At halftime Prep lead 21-0. In the locker room, coach Coyle brought the entire team together and talked about what just happened and what they needed to do to come back. The team that played in the second half was not the same team that played in the first half. Prep scored early in the half to go up 28-0, however Judge would not quit. The defense returned a pass for a TD and then recovered a fumble. The offense then scored 14 points on passes from Tony Smith. The Judge defense that was picked apart early on, bonded together and played strong for the final 25 minutes of the game. The defense intercepted four passes and recovered a fumble. The Crusaders look to bounce back next week when they travel to PW to play the defending Catholic League Champions LaSalle. LaSalle beat Father Judge 28-20 last year in the Championship Game. Big win over Ryan The Crusaders are playing goof football right now. Tonight's game put them against local rival Ryan and also former offensive assistants Rahill and Wagner. The Crusaders came out on top. Ryan had under 150 total yards, 13 for passing. C. Wortham continued his good ways by rushing for 115 yards and scoring 3 TD's. T. Smith also had a good day throwing for 129 yards and 1 TD and also rushing for 36 yards and 1 TD. On special teams, senior kicker O. Radtke, continues to put up points. He now has 24 points for the season. LEADERS SO FAR: Rushing: C. Wortham - 599 yards 8 TD's Passing: T. Smith - 561 yards 7TD's Receiving: M. Gis - 209 yards 4 TD's Defense: K. Toner - 2 INT'S 3-0 Start The Crusaders have picked up where they left off last year. The Crusaders have started the season 3-0, the last time they started 3-0 was in 2007 when they finished the season 9-3 and lost in the second round of the playoffs. After a 90 minute bus trip up the turnpike, the Crusaders played hard on both sides of the ball and came out with a 43-20 win. The Crusaders offense was led by T. Smith throwing for 197 yards and 3 td's, six different receivers caught a pass for the crusaders. On the ground, the Crusaders were once again led by C. Wortham who rushed for 137 yards and 3 td's. C. Wortham now has 484 yards rushing and 5 td's. The Crusaders open league play on Saturday 9/26/09 against local rival Ryan. FIRST WIN: The Crusaders opened up the 2009 season with a 35-21 over Council Rock North High School. Curtis Wortham rushed for 261 yards on 33 carries and 2 touchdowns. NEW COACHES JOIN THE FAMILY: The Father Judge Football team is proud to welcome three new members to the coaching staff. Joe Spera a former assistant at Penn Charter joins the offensive staff, joining him is former Crusader Joe Spera. On the freshmen side former Crusader Jim McAtter joins the defensive staff. COACHES MOVING ON: After a very successful 2008 season, the Father Judge Football team said goodbye to four assistant coaches. Varsity offensive assistants Chris Rahill and Nick Wagner left the staff to join Archbishop Ryan High School. Coach Rahill will serve as their offense coordinator and coach Wagner will serve as the defensive backs coach. Freshmen assistants Jack and Kevin Bygott also left the staff. Coach Jack Bygott has rejoined the North Catholic football Staff. |
